I bought this for my 8th grade son as part of his required school reading. Told in street slang and with a hint of texting, this story can be a little hard to read. Things quickly heat up with missing witnesses, dead bodies and clues leading to a prominent music producer. I had a very good time reading through the Winterdance, that is an exciting, funny and emotional account of the author's experience in the Iditarod. The author did bring up a sound point remember when you are smudging about your fire alarm system I never even considered that I mean who thinks of these things until they go off (LOL). I roughly the first half of the book, Haynes alternates chapters to describe two things: the horror and stress of the present as it gets worse and worse, and secondly the protagonist's past describing how she got in the situatin she is in. This book will be a constant reference for me. The writing is quite good and fast-paced, and the story is enough to keep any tween-age girl (or boy, although the book obviously has a target demographic) interested until the very end. There has been a paradigm shift towards a learner-centric focus with a more transactional business approach, with students playing a more dominate role in their education process.
