I recently very much enjoyed Connie Willis' "Blackout" which DOES end with a cliff hanger and I am glad I knew that going in; some readers didn't and felt cheated. There are plenty of first person accounts (sea stories) of TopGun's genesis and dogfights against the VPAF. I enjoyed the movie and the book. The Kindle edition is a mess, however, with at least three repeated sections separated by several pages eachI can sympathize with Stone's migraines. While certain other aspects of his writing could use some improvement, Greig Beck is excellent at making monsters. The sad fact of war is nobody wins and all suffer extreme hardships. He exhibits no feelings towards Isabel and refuses to have anything to do with her. But, at 5 foot, 4 (with lifts in his shoes), homeless and unemployed, Martin Villas is an improbable hero . The author handles this touchy situation with aplomb, sparing the reader any salacious details that would detract from her scholarly approach. At the same time he encounters another woman, a journalist, who gets caught up in the dangerous work Shaw performs. Part game, part journal, and part scrapbook, this book celebrates grandpas and their relationship to their grandchildren. I would recommend this book.
